Our beer story began in Hyderabad in India where Anirudh successfully completed his bachelor’s degree in biotechnology. His interest in brewing beer led him to visit the Carlsberg brewery on the outskirts of the city. Anirudh was amazed by how grains and hops were transformed into a golden drink that was tasty and refreshing at the same time. He decided to continue his studies in Lille in the north of France where he studied food technology, with a focus on beer brewing. He worked on various projects related to brewing beer, familiarizing himself with the traditional beer styles of the north of France. Chance happened to bring Anirudh to Brussels for an internship that led to a job at the same company where he crossed paths with Dimitri in 2017.

Dimitri is Belgian, born and raised in Leuven. In 2008, he moved with his family to Wezembeek-Oppem, a stone’s throw from the Tervuren Park. Before that, he had completed his studies of industrial engineering in biochemistry, with a course in beer brewing under his belt after an internship at one of the largest beer brewers in the world. During his studies and even before that, while collecting beer mats, the idea of ​​doing something with beer was already playing; Beer brewing is a wildly interesting activity and leaves room for the creative aspect. After having specialized professionally in the development and preparation of non-alcoholic beverages for more than 18 years  for more than 18 years, Dimitri decided to take his first steps in the beer world.

Thanks to their professional collaboration, it soon became clear that there was a good click between Anirudh and Dimitri. Their shared interest in drinking and tasting beers, combined with their great passion for developing new beverages, gives them the idea to start brewing beer as a hobby. The beer brewing takes place in Tervuren, and Anirudh spends more and more time in Tervuren itself, regularly cycles in the beautiful park of Tervuren, enjoys a nice beer on a terrace in the city center, or visits the Africa Museum. Experimenting and brewing on a small scale leads to the creation of a few signature recipes that are usually enjoyed by friends and family.

What started as a hobby takes on somewhat larger proportions and results after two and a half years of toil, tasting and sweating, in a first commercial beer: Tervoerke Tripel. It is a beer based on tradition, but also with a creative touch. A beer for the residents of Tervuren and the neighboring municipalities.

After months of brainstorming for a suitable company name, we’re stuck with the name it all started with. The AD Brewing Company was founded in 2019 by Anirudh Bobbili and Dimitri Tips – a simple name that is easy to pronounce in different languages ​​by people of different backgrounds, just like the founders.
